CoC Announces 2024 Paper Competition Winners

The CoC announced the winners of the annual Cancer Research Paper Competition at its Plenary Session in San Francisco, California.

Judging in the Clinical Research category was based on originality, scientific merit and clinical relevance to clinical oncology, and the mission of the CoC.

First place: Richard Sassun, MD, 鈥淎 Valid Integration of Tumor Deposits in N Staging for Prognostication in Colon Cancer鈥

Second place: Kelley Chan, MD, MS, 鈥淐ommission on Cancer Hospital Accreditation Status is Associated with Increased Delivery of Guideline-Concordant Care for Highly Vulnerable Patients with Breast Cancer鈥

Third place: Jamie Hillas, MD, 鈥淩elationships Matter: Matching Barriers to Implementation Strategies for Commission on Cancer鈥檚 Breast Surgical Standards鈥 AND Amelia Wong, DO, 鈥淎n Innovative Pathway to Diagnose, Stage and Treat Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: Addressing Treatment Delays in the Pacific Region鈥

There were no winners this year in the Basic Science category.

The annual Cancer Research Paper Competition is a collaborative activity of the CoC and the American Cancer Society and is open to all residents and fellows-in-training. The 2025 competition will open in January. More information is available on the CoC website.
