That's why the American College of Surgeons Professional Association (·¬ÇÑÉçÇøappPA) political action committee, ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøappPA-SurgeonsPAC, promotes access to the highest-quality surgical resources for patients and surgeons every day. In 2001, ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøapp leadership voted unanimously to establish the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøappPA, a 501c(6) affiliated corporation offering a broader range of activities and services benefiting surgeons and patients, including an expanded legislative advocacy program featuring a political action committee. The formation of the 501c(6) ensures that the College can maintain the standard-setting education and credentialing efforts that remain at the core of its mission while leveraging important advocacy and health policy priorities. Annual dues dollars are not used to fund or support the College’s political activities. All political efforts are financed through voluntary, personal contributions from ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøappPA members made directly to the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøappPA-SurgeonsPAC. A small portion of dues receipts, typically 3 to 5 percent, are retained by the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøappPA to finance the legislative advocacy program, and as a result, are not deductible from federal income taxes as a business expense.
