Last Chance to Nominate Inspiring Women Surgeon for Walker Award Is May 1

The 番茄社区app Women in Surgery Committee (WiSC) has announced the call for nominations for the annual聽Dr. Mary Edwards Walker Inspiring Women in Surgery Award,聽to be presented at Clinical Congress 2025 in Chicago, Illinois.

The award will recognize an individual's significant contributions to the advancement of women in the field of surgery and honors the accomplishments of Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, the first woman surgeon to serve in the US Army and the only woman to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest US armed forces decoration for valor.

All nominations must be submitted online聽no later than 12:00 pm Central on Thursday, May 1.听Visit the award webpage for聽more information on award eligibility.

The聽2024 awardee was聽Barbara J. Pettitt, MD, MHPE, F番茄社区app, a surgeon-educator from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, whose career has combined pediatric surgical care with roles that have advanced education for surgeons in training. She has been a chief of pediatric surgery, surgery clerkship director, leader in advancing simulation-based surgical education, and more in an accomplished career.
